Committee strategizes against flood disaster

The Senior Technical Adviser to Vice President on Disaster Risk Management, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu says urgent measures must be put in place to mitigate against disaster in the flood-prone states.

He stated this during the meeting of the Presidential Committee on Flood Disaster Management in Abuja.

Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu said the committee would collaborate with the states to prevent the recurrence of flood disaster and loss of lives.

He maintained that the committee would use three categories of lightly, moderately and severely affected states to address the plights of the people.

Director-General of Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, Engr Clement Nze urged the committee to be focus and work towards flood prevention in the states in line with the prediction of Nigerian Meteorological Agency, MINET.

The programme officer, Nigeria governor’s Forum, Dr Gianni Dongo assured the committee of the NGF’s support in the involvement of the state governors.

The committee was grouped in sub-committees for further brainstorming and deliberation.
