AU urges FG to implement Youth policy

The Nigerian Representative, African Union, Economic, Social and Cultural Council, AU, ECOSOCC, Dr. Tunji Asaolu has called on the Federal Government to urgently implement the national youth policy and Africa Charter to address unemployment in the country.

He made the call in Abuja during the unveiling of Nigeria Youth Ambassador Award and Miss Nigeria youth Ambassador project to commemorate the United Nations International Youth Day in August.

Dr Asaolu explained that the national youth policy could empower youths and improve the economy of the nation.

According to Dr Asaolu, the policy contained strategies that if adequately implemented, joblessness would be a thing of the past.

The Project Director, Nigeria Youth Ambassador, Mr Uzoh Ifeanyi said while working with the United Nations, he discovered that there was a limited number of youths involved in UN related events due to ignorance.

Mr. Ifeanyi said the aim of project was to enlighten young people on ways of attracting empowerment opportunities within and outside the country.

Some of the Youths, Queen Temitope and Zuleihat Ohiare said they had been involved in activities that had impacted positively on youths and women.

A youth Ambassador is expected to emerge after various activities including competitions to commemorate the forth coming United Nations International Youth Day.
