The Federal Government has opened the Leventis Bridge in Apapa to reduce traffic gridlock in the axis and decongest the roads of articulated vehicles.
Speaking at the ceremony, South West Director of Highways in the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Funsho Adebiyi stated that this would boost ease of doing business in the nation’s premier ports and its environs.
Mr Adebiyi thanked the motoring public for their patience since the bridge was shut down in June 2018 for reconstruction due to fire outbreak.
He warned that henceforth, the Federal Government would work with security agencies to put an end to activities of illegal occupants lodging under the bridge to forestall further damages.
Members of the Container Truck Owners Association of Nigeria, COTOAN, expressed happiness that reconstruction and reopening of the damaged portion of the bridge would bring succour to drivers.
Secretary of the Association, Yakub Kolawole noted that this would help boost business activities of members and improve travel time.
About twenty- six metres on a portion of the Leventis Bridge was severely damaged by fire in September, 2015.
