The signing of Peace Pact by gubernatorial candidates in Nasarawa state was organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission in collaboration with Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue and the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Elections and Security.
Nasarawa state INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner ,Dr Othman Ajidagba stressed that politicians , especially flag bearers of the various political parties have greater roles to play in ensuring peaceful conduct of the forthcoming elections.
Country Director, Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, Dr Babatunde Atolabi called on the candidates to caution their supporters to eschew violence and provocative statements throughout the electoral process.
The State Commissioner of Police and also the Chairman Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Elections and Security, Adebola Lange reaffirmed commitment of security agencies to protect lives and property before, during and after the elections.
Candidates of Social Democratic Party , Ishak Kana and that of Peoples Democratic party David Ombugadu pledged to abide by the peace pact.
Notable among the sixteen Governorship candidates that were absent during signing of the peace pact include those of the All Progressives Congress APC and the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA.
