The Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson has emphasized the need to appreciate the sacrifices made by the military to maintain peace and unity of the country on the occasion of the 2019 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
Governor Dickson made the remarks after the wreath laying as part of activities to mark the Day at the Peace Park in Yenagoa.
The Governor who was represented by the Deputy Governor of the state Retired Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John-Jonah acknowledged the immense contributions of the military to national security.
He said the military and other security agencies continue to make enormous sacrifices in maintaining peace, especially in the North East and other parts of the country.
The Governor expressed satisfaction with the efforts being made by the Federal Government to address the challenges of legionnaires and announced automatic employment for widows of two soldiers of Bayelsa origin who died recently.
The State Chairman of Nigeria Legion, Mr Ogele Okus thanked the government for celebrating them and called for more support to families of the fallen heroes .
The high point of the celebration was the firing of Salvo in memory of the Unknown Soldier and symbolic release of unity pigeons.
