The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has warned operators of Computer Based Test Centers to adhere strictly to the guidelines set by the Board for candidates registration and the conduct of the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, or face sanction.
The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede gave the warning at a Stakeholder meeting held in Lagos ahead of next year’s UTME.
He appealed to operators of CBT centers that engaged in all forms of sharp practices at the point of candidates’ registration and sitting the UTME to desist from such acts.
The JAMB Registrar explained that some operators of UTME- CBT centers exploit candidates at the point of registration, aide some candidates to do multiple registration , manipulates some candidates’ profile on the computer for monetary gains and sell fake examination past questions.
Prof. Oloyede said that apart from the fifty CBT centers sanctioned last year for their involvement in sharp practices, an operator of another CBT center was handed over to the police early in the week for collecting six thousand naira from candidates to register them for next year’s UTME which was yet to commence.
He also warned CBT centers against charging candidates more than seven hundred naira for registration as stipulated by JAMB.
The JAMB boss however, announced that Seven hundred and Eighteen CBT centres have been approved for the conduct of the 2019 examination across the country.
Prof. Oloyede enjoined candidates not to patronize unauthorized CBT centers or Cyber cafe’s for their registration to avoid being exploited.
The Chairman, Governing Board of JAMB, Dr. Emmanuel Ndukwe appealed to all stakeholders, operators of CBT centers in particular, to support JAMB in its quest to sustain the integrity of its examinations.
Some operators of CBT centers were later given the opportunity to share the challenges they encounter in the course of registering candidates for the UTME and conduct of the examination.
The stakeholders at the event include Vice Chancellors, Operators of CBT centers, financial institutions and examination bodies.
