President Muhammadu Buhari is to present the 2019 Budget proposal to the Joint Session of the National Assembly on Wednesday next week.
This was contained in a letter sent to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr.Yakubu Dogara.
In the Letter, President Buhari had requested the Legislators to allow him present the money Bill at Eleven O’clock in the morning of the said date.
Speaker Dogara read the letter to members which immediately elicited a point of Order bordering on the bridge of Legislative privilege by the Minister of Budget and National planning who was alleged to have blamed the National Assembly for the delay in the presentation of the budget estimate.
Raising the point of Order, the Representative of Shiroro/Rafin Muyan Federal Constituency of Niger State, Mallam Abubakar Chika said that the report attributed to the minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma projected the Legislature in bad light as the comment preceded the letter requesting a date for the budget presentation.
In a response, the Majority Leader,Mr.Femi Gbajabiamila told the House that Senator Udoma called him this morning to deny the alleged report in some media.
Ruling on the point of Order, the Speaker,Mr.Yakubu Dogara said that there was no prior request for budget presentation date which the House rejected.
The Speaker said that the House awaits a rejoinder from the minister, failure to which the legislature would view the comment as serious.
