A man suspected of starting a fire in South Africa’s Alexandra township has been killed by a mob, says the BBC.
He died of his injuries on Friday after being taken to hospital following the blaze that broke out the previous day.
The fire destroyed more than 500 shacks, leaving hundreds homeless. Police are yet to determine the cause.
Vigilante killings are known to be common in poor areas where crime is often high and communities feel frustrated with the police.
The densely populated township of Alexandra is north of the city of Johannesburg.
