The Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has suspended the Accountant General of the state, Mrs Stella Udogwu and ordered for the arrest of bank managers over the delay of October and November salaries of Local Government Workers.
Governor Okorocha made this known at the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees NULGE at the Heroes Square, Owerri.
He expressed displeasure over the manner at which the accountants and treasures are sabotaging the efforts of the government by delaying workers salary with the management of banks.
The governor ordered the immediate payment of salaries from October to December with extra ten thousand naira each.
Governor Okorocha however approved the sum of two point five million naira as car allowance for DAGS noting that local government treasures would clear themselves of any scandal in the delay of workers salary before benefiting from the car.
The chairman of NULGE, Imo State branch, Mr Richard Eze emphasized that NULGE is one of the formidable industrial unions in Nigeria, primarily created as pressure group for the protection and interest of local government workers in Nigeria.
He appealed to the state government to look into the plight of workers and find a lasting solution which includes appointment of heads of local government administration on salary grade level seventeen, recall of unduly retired local government workers affected by the recent released white paper.
The Governor was given an award of excellence as the most distinguished and outstanding developer of Imo.
