A Seven member Presidential independent fact-finding Panel has been inaugurated to determine the remote causes of the crisis at the National Insurance Scheme NHIS.
The Federal government had earlier approved a presidential independent fact finding panel to investigate the allegations of infractions and wrongdoing leveled against the suspended Executive Secretary of NHIS Prof Usman Yusuf.
Inaugurating the panel in Abuja, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha gave the terms of reference of the panel.
Some of the terms of reference of the panel are to investigate the alleged infractions listed by the NHIS Governing Council in its letter dated Oct. 18, 2018, determine the extent of culpability with regards to the allegations, identify, investigate and make recommendations with regards to issues that led to the unhealthy relationship between the board and the Chief Executive Officer.
Mr Mustapha urged the panel to be through and non- partisan in carrying out their assignment.
The Head of the Civil service of the Federation, Mrs Winfred Oyo-Ita, represented by Director IPPIS in the office, Mrs Anne Attah explained that civil servants and their families benefit mostly from the scheme.
The Minister of Health, Prof Issac Adewole expressed confidence that the composition of the panel would address the crisis at the NHIS.
He said with the Seven member fact finding panel, Nigerians are hopeful that the provision of easy access to adequate and affordable healthcare would be guaranteed.
Responding, the Chairman of the Panel and former Federal Permanent Secretary, Dr Hassan Bukar pledged to submit their report within the stipulated period of two weeks.
Members of the panel are Dr Emmanuel Meribole , Director, Federal Ministry of Health and Mr Adewale Owolo , Director, Audit, Office of the Auditor General of the Federation (OAGF), as members.
Other are Mr Shamsuddeen Bello, Deputy Director, Expenditure, OSGF; Mr Ishaq Yahaya , Director, Certification and Compliance, Bureau of Public Procurement and Dr Ekanem Udoh, Director, Science, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology and Mrs Jummai Idakwo, OSGF, is Secretary of the panel.
