The Gombe State Primary Healthcare Development Agency GSPHCDA in collaboration with Nigerian States Health Investment Project NSHIP has trained 92 health workers on Healthcare Waste management.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the training, the Executive Secretary Gombe Sate Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Gana who was represented by the AF-NSHIP project coordinator Gombe, Alhaji Aminu Saleh Abubakar said, the training aimed at building the capacity of health workers on how to properly handle healthcare waste according to the guiding principles from point of generation to that of disposal.
Aminu Saleh however urged the participants to pass the training to their colleagues at their places of work and to also ensure that they inculcate the healthcare waste management best practices in their everyday work at health facilities.
“This will reduce the risk of health hazards posed by hazardous waste generated in the health facilities”.
Participants include environmental health technicians, medical doctors, health facility managers, laboratory scientists, pharmacists among others.
