People who use the Abuja Kaduna train service have been assured of their safety.
The Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi gave the assurance during an interactive session with journalists,in Abuja on Tuesday.
Mr. Amaechi said police presence in the coaches have been increased, and there was no need to be fearful of kidnappers if the coaches breakdown.
The Minister said that money for the perimeter fencing of the rail track has been released, to avoid a repeat of the incident where cows were crushed.
He also said the response time for repairing faulty coaches was ten minutes, by operatives of the Nigeria Railway Service.
The Minister of Transportation, also revealed that due to the pressure of passengers, during the weekends,the ministry was making arrangements to purchase fourteen more coaches and four locomotives,once there are funds.
On various rail line projects, going on across the country, Mr. Amaechi said eighty percent of the civil work on the Lagos Ibadan rail line had been completed, and hopes the project will be delivered in December.
For the Ibadan Kano rail project, he told journalists that the federal government was trying to access a six million dollars loan from the China Exim bank.
He however said discussions were still going on for the construction of a double track rail line, instead of a single track as agreed by the China Civil Engineering Company.
Mr. Rotimi Amaechi said the Itakpe Warri rail line project would now be extended to Lokoja,while the Port Harcourt Maidugri rail project would also be done.
The Director Press in the Ministry, Mrs. Yetubde Sonaike was celebrated and sent off, after a thirty five year journey in the civil service at the event.
