Kano assembly removes speaker

Abdullahi Attah, speaker of the Kano state House of Assembly, has been removed while Al Hassan Rurum has been elected the new speaker.

Rurum had resigned as speaker of the assembly in July 2017.

The move followed a motion filed by member representing Warawa constituency Alhaji Labaran Abdul Madari, seconded by member representing Tudun Wada constituency, Abdullahi Yaryasa, accusing Alhaji Abdullahi Atah Fagge of corruption and not carrying the members of the house along.

The Deputy speaker was replaced by the former deputy speaker Alhaji Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari, the majority leader Mohammad Bello Butu Butu was replaced by Baffa-Babba Dan agundi and Alhaji Ayuba Labaran member representing Kabo emerged as majority whip.

Twenty seven members out of the forty signed the approval of the impeachment of Abdullahi Fagge.
