Benue State Governor, Dr Samuel Ortom was today prevented from going to Abuja to attend a scheduled meeting with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC by a coalition of Benue youths.
The youths who carried placards with various inscriptions such as, “Dont let them deceive you”, “2019 On Ortom, we stand” and “Ortom you must leave APC” blocked the convoy of the Governor at the Government House Roundabout and asked him to turn back.
Spokesmen for the youths, Mr. Dave Ogbole and Terrence Kuanum said they were opposed to the Governor mending fences with the APC, because the party had failed Benue people by looking the other way while herdsmen unleash terror on them.
They said if Governor Ortom insisted on going to Abuja to meet with the APC, they would mobilize the youths across the state to vote him out.
Responding, Governor Samuel Ortom expressed appreciation to Benue people, especially the youths for their solidarity and assured that he will not do anything to betray their trust.
The Governor after a brief consultation with some of his aids turned back while the APC flag on his official vehicle was removed by the youths.
Terna Injua, Benue.
