Ten more bodies have been uncovered from the rubble of a house demolished by the floods that swept through Jibia town of Katsina State last week.
The State Emergency Management Agency confirmed the latest deaths to our correspondent who visited Jibia to file in updates on the flood disaster.
This brings the total number of people confirmed dead from the disaster to sixty-one, as some of the dead bodies were recovered by a river bank in neighbouring Niger Republic.
Meanwhile, over four hundred and sixty households affected by the floods have received relief packages from the federal and state government’s joint emergency management committee.
Head of the committee and acting chairman of Jibia Local Government Area, Alhaji Mustafa Danmusa disclosed this to Radio Nigeria.
He explained that the committee has so far received four million Naira cash assistance as well as eight hundred bags of rice, four hundred bags of maize, fifty bags of sugar and several other food and household items.
However, out of the thirteen trucks of relief materials promised by the federal government, Alhaji Mustafa Danmusa said the committee has only received two trucks.
Our correspondent reports that most of those displaced by the floods are currently taking refuge at a primary school in Jibia twon.
