Nigerians have been urged to join hands with government in the fight against drug abuse, to prevent its hazards on mankind.
The Director General, National Agency for Food, Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, Professor Moji Adeyeye gave the advice in Benin City at a symposium on the problems of drug/substance abuse.
Represented by the Edo State coordinator of the Agency, Pharmacist Esther Itua, the Director General expressed worry over the rate of drug abuse in the country
Professor Adeyeye called on parents to monitor their children more closely regardless of their age, for more success to be recorded in the fight against drug abuse and its consequences.
In another paper presentation, the registrar, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, Professor Owoidoho Udofia identified unemployment as a major cause of drug abuse in the country and called for more actions to be taken against joblessness.
The symposium was organized by the University of Benin, UNIBEN, as part of activities to mark International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
