Dapchi town has been thrown into celebration since the announcement that Leah Sharibu will be released by Boko Haram ‘soon’.
Sharibu is the only girl in captivity out of the 110 students abducted on February 19, who was reportedly held back by Boko Haram for her refusal to renounce Christianity, though this claim has not been verified.
Inspector-general of Police, Ibrahim Idris, said Boko Haram insurgents are set to release her
The IG made the confirmation at the headquarters of the Theatre command of Operation Lafiya Dole in Maiduguri as he concluded his two-day tour of the three states in the northeast.
He said: “I would have gone to Dapchi today, but by the time I fly in with a helicopter and police escort, they may think I’m trying to break the arrangement.”
His statements indicates that Sharibu may be released from captivity today.
Snr Special Assistant-Media and Publicity to Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, Laolu Akande , tweeted that:
“As the President has said the FG has not & will not relent until Leah Sharibu is free. It’s a solemn promise. Let no one use the situation to draw religious wedges or promote a divisive narrative. It’s no use. Watch it, Leah & her family shall also rejoice by God’s special grace!”
