President Muhammadu Buhari has canceled the trip to Kigali, Rwanda, for the launch of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) scheduled for Monday.

A statement by the ministry of foreign affairs on Sunday says the journey was cancelled because some stakeholders in Nigeria indicated that they had not been consulted, for which reason they had some concerns on the provisions of the treaty.

Mr. President’s decision is to allow time for broader consultations on the issue, the statement said.

The Federal Executive Council had, at its meeting on Wednesday approved for President Buhari to sign AfCFTA Treaty at the Extraordinary Summit of the African Union in Rwanda.
