Justice Rilwan Aikawa of a Lagos Federal High Court, has ordered the final forfeiture of over twenty eight million naira, houses, and plots of land allegedly acquired by corrupt means by former director of finance of Lagos Public Works Corporation, Alade Anifowoshe.
The judge held that the applicant, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, showed reasonable cause that the fund and properties were proceeds of unlawful activity.
The accused was said to have used his position to unlawfully enrich himself.
At the last adjourned date, both the federal and Lagos state governments had laid claim to the properties, but counsel to the state, Mr. Saheed Quadri stated that the said sum and properties belongs to the state as such it should be forfeited to the state.
The judge also ruled that the federal government should take administrative steps to ensure that the funds and properties are transmitted to the Lagos State government in view of the evidence before the court.
