Yellow fever: 600 vaccinated in Bauchi

Over six hundred people at Yankari Game Reserve and neighbouring communities have been vaccinated against Yellow Fever, following suspected cases of the disease that claimed some lives.

Executive Chairman of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Rilwanu Muhammad told newsmen at a press briefing on Friday that samples of six suspected cases have been sent to the National Reference Laboratory, Abuja and Regional Laboratory, Dakar, Senegal for further investigation.

The Rapid Response Team comprises of the State Epidemiology Unit, National Centre for Disease Control and other stakeholders, had established that there were cases of Yellow Fever, from Borno, Gombe and Kano states that were linked to Yankari Game Reserve in Alkaleri local government area of Bauchi State.

Dr Muhammad said the development prompted the ministry took immediate action by carrying out reactive vaccination at the Game Reserve and neighbouring communities.
