The Director-General National Broadcasting Commission, Malam Ishaq Madibbo Kawu has charged broadcasting organisations in the country to always come up with programmes that will enhance sustainable development.
Mal Kawu who was a guest lecturer at the 10th years anniversary of the University of Ilorin FM radio station, held at the university auditorium, described broadcasting as a major catalyst in the development of any society.
He noted that deregulation of broadcasting by the Babangida administration brought a remarkable change to broadcasting in Nigeria, which made many radio stations to see the light of the day.
He said for broadcasting to play its role of sustainable development in the national development, broadcasters must be professional in producing programmes that will enhance sustainable development, through designing of special programmes and training that are relevant to their immediate environment.
Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof Sulyman Age Abdulkareem noted that the radio station has been a leading light in campus radio broadcasting, evident in many awards won by the station.
He explained that the station abides by the rules and regulations that established it and adds value to the university system.
The event which featured presentation of award among other highlights, was attended by the Registrar, Joint Admission, Matriculation Board JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, media Professionals, traditional rulers among others.
